Manchester United confirmed on their official website that a deal had been agreed to sign Sporting Lisbon captain Bruno Fernandes, subject to a medical and personal terms – and Everton loanee Yannick Bolasie has reacted on Instagram.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are said to have agreed a fee with Sporting, and the 25-year-old has travelled to Manchester to complete a deal. BBC Sport claim United have paid £47million up front, while the fee could rise to as much as £67.6million.

Fernandes, who has scored 15 goals and created another 14 in 28 league and cup appearances this season, has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford. The 19-time Portugal international is considered the best player in the Liga NOS.

Manchester United have long needed a central midfielder, even before Paul Pogba’s ankle problems which have limited the France international to just eight appearances in all competitions this season.

Fernandes will have watched his soon-to-be new side beat Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Wednesday night, though Solskjaer’s side lost the match 3-2 on aggregate – despite the 1-0 win on the night.

With a move almost complete and expected to be announced on Thursday, Fernandes’ Sporting teammate Bolasie – who is on loan at Sporting from Everton – claimed the Premier League is about to receive “a baller”.
