Yannick Bolasie reacts to contract update regarding Crystal Palace man Joel Ward

Yannick Bolasie has reacted to news Joel Ward has agreed on a new contract with Crystal Palace.

The full-back was one of several players whose contract expired at the end of last month. But Palace are reportedly set to confirm a new deal for the defender.

He will join Christian Benteke in signing a new deal to keep him at Selhurst Park at the start of June.

Meanwhile, Gary Cahill will remain with the south Londoners, but he is yet to sign. While Andros Townsend, who was expected to stay, is unlikely to sign a new deal.

Taking to Twitter to react, Bolasie said: “It’s only right!”

Ward contract means Crystal Palace retain valuable experience

A new contract for Ward means Crystal Palace will be retaining some valuable experience in defence.

The ace is currently the longest-serving player at the club having joined back in 2012. He has made 273 appearances for the Eagles, playing across the Championship and Premier League.

Palace are at the start of a new era under Patrick Vieira. And it seems youth is the way forward for the Frenchman after he made 19-year-old Michael Olisie his first signing.

Meanwhile, the club also have the likes of Eberechi Eze and Tyrick Mitchell among their ranks.

It means keeping a leader like Ward is crucial to help Palace’s young players adjust to life in the top flight.
