It’s full steam ahead for Liverpool in their bid to end their 30-year wait for a league title.

On Sunday, the Reds recorded yet another Premier League victory, this time over Manchester United at Anfield.

The Red Devils are the only team to have taken points off Liverpool this season, but couldn’t achieve the feat for a second time.

The club now have an unassailable lead atop the table, and it seems a given Jordan Henderson will be hoisting the trophy come May.

It’s been a brilliant squad effort from Liverpool and the standard has been incredibly high, but one man who has barely featured is 2018 summer signing Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Switzerland international has made just 10 appearances in 2019/20 – only two of which have been starts.

Injury has meant him missing 16 games in all competitions, and with several other first-teamers having been keeping him company in the treatment room, opportunities have definitely been missed for the 28-year-old.

Jurgen Klopp will want his side to keep their foot on the throttle despite a comfortable lead, meaning Shaqiri is therefore unlikely to feature much between now and May.

TBR’s view – Shaqiri should consider loan exit

£80,000-a-week star Shaqiri (Spotrac) should strongly consider requesting a loan move in January as it will be difficult for him to stake a claim.

His injury troubles, combined with his standing in the Anfield pecking order, have seen him play too little football for a player of his quality since his transfer from Stoke City.

The club have now signed Takumi Minamino and youngster Harvey Elliott is looking very promising, and these things theoretically push him further down that pecking order – and maybe that alone should encourage Shaqiri to take measures which will help remind Jurgen Klopp and the fans how good he can be.
