Xavi Simons says £55m Arsenal target is better than Man United’s Kobbie Mainoo

Arsenal didn’t manage to sign a new striker this summer, but it wasn’t for the lack of trying.

Indeed, the Gunners looked into signing a new number nine this summer with Benjamin Sesko a key target.

Arsenal looked into a £55m move for Sesko this summer, but, ultimately, the striker decided to stay at RB Leipzig.

Arsenal are still said to be keen on Sesko.

Now, speaking to SportBible on TikTok, Xavi Simons has reserved some special praise for Sesko.

Indeed, according to the midfielder, Sesko is one of the best young players in the world, placing him ahead of both Kobbie Mainoo and himself when asked to rank some of the wonderkids in world football.

Benjamin Sesko is better than Kobbie Mainoo

Simons spoke about his teammate when ranking wonderkids.

“Zaire-Emery or Mainoo?” Simons was asked.

“Kobbie,” Simons said.

“Kobbie Mainoo or Benjamin Sesko?”

“Sesko, my teammate,” Simons said.

Benjamin Sesko’s slow start

Arsenal were disappointed to miss out on Sesko this summer, but his numbers so far this season suggest the Gunners aren’t missing much.

Indeed, Sesko is yet to score a league goal for RB Leipzig this term.

He’s grabbed an assist in his three appearances so far, but he’s not been able to score yet.

Of course, Arsenal have tons of creative attacking players, but they’re missing that killer number nine, and Sesko doesn’t look like he would necessarily have been the answer.

With all due respect, Sesko did only score 14 Bundesliga goals last season, and while that is a decent return, it’s not exactly game-changing figures that would’ve completely changed Arsenal’s trajectory.

Sesko is a young player with a very high ceiling, but he’s far from the finished product.

As Simons says, Sesko is a wonderkid, but he may not be the immediate solution to Arsenal’s striking problems.
