Xavi praises Richarlison after Tottenham star's goals for Brazil
Richarlison is surely currently on pole position to win the goal of the tournament in Qatar. The 25-year-old got the nod from Tite to start Selecao’s opening group-stage clash with Serbia this week.
It appeared that it may be a frustrating night for Brazil as the game reached the hour mark still goalless. However, it was Richarlison who came to the five-time winners’ rescue.
Xavi praises Richarlison
He opened the scoring after Vinicius Jr’s attempt had initially been saved. The Spurs man was there and reacted fastest to tap the ball home.
But of course, it is his second goal that sealed the one which everyone is talking about.
Richarlison touched the ball into the air after Vinicius Jr fired a cross into the box. And just as the ball started to come back down, he met it with a thunderous bicycle kick which was fired into the bottom corner.
Unsurprisingly, both goals sparked wild scenes amongst the Brazilian squad.
And it seems that they caught the eye of Xavi.
The Barcelona boss took part in a quick fire Q&A on the FIFA World Cup Instagram page. And when asked to pick the best finisher at the tournament, he opted for the Tottenham star…
It will be fascinating to see how Richarlison fares in the remaining games of the tournament. You would imagine that they will have little problem getting through to the knockout stages.
Should he continue to impress, he will leave Antonio Conte with plenty to ponder upon his return. He is yet to get a prolonged chance up front for Spurs – for good reason.
But an impressive World Cup could perhaps see Richarlison do the almost unthinkable and put a little pressure on Harry Kane.
