It looks like the least privately conducted transfer in footballing history. Mesut Ozil is making on secret of a proposed move to Fenerbahce, posting numerous pictures on Instagram ahead of his eventual Arsenal exit.
The 32-year-old has entered the final six months of his contract at and has failed to make a single appearance for the north London club this season. Mikel Arteta left him out of the Premier League and European squads.
Despite not playing, his name has been a constant among pundits, supporters and those vocal on social media. Largely down to the fact he is Arsenal’s highest earner – rumoured to be picking up £350,000 a week.
But a move to the club he supported as a child is looking inevitable. Though neither Fener nor Arsenal have confirmed a move, Ozil has posted numerous updates on Instagram – including travelling to his proposed new side.
The Mirror claim he is set to see his Arsenal contract terminated, freeing him up to join Fener – meaning he will give up £7million in wages. He is set to sign in the region of half of that in Turkey, which is £65,000 a week.
Alexandre Lacazette responded to one of his Instagram posts, with a series of emojis. Ex-Real Madrid teammates Xabi Alonso and Karim Benzema also responded on Instagram, wishing Ozil all the best.
