‘Writing is on the wall’: Some Arsenal fans react to Mikel Arteta’s comments on forward

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta spoke about Eddie Nketiah’s situation at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are convinced his comments indicate that the player will exit in the summer transfer window.

Nketiah, who earns £45,000-a-week, has struggled for minutes so far during the calendar year.

The 21-year-old striker has five goals in 24 appearances this campaign across all competitions, but most of them came in the first half of the season when he was featuring more regularly.

Arsenal’s manager has explained that the England Under-21 international is someone who deserves and needs more minutes than he’s currently getting:

“He will have his chance, he needs to be patient. He is showing no signs of lacking attitude or something like that it’s completely the opposite. He is a joy to work with and he deserves minutes, and if he doesn’t get it it’s just my fault,” Arteta said, as quoted by Football London.

“To be fair when he’s played he’s played well, but at his age and for what he’s done in the last two or three seasons he needs more minutes. It’s something that we have to talk about openly and make the right decision. “

It’s unclear on what Nketiah’s future holds, especially as his contract with the North London club expires next summer.

The Daily Star reported at the beginning of March that Premier League and London rivals West Ham have the Arsenal youngster on a striker shortlist for potential summer targets.

A selection of Gunners fans on social media feel that all the signs point towards Nketiah departing the club.

He’s a product of their academy and is an extremely bright young talent, but is stuck behind Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the pecking order.
