Ian Wright sends Hector Bellerin message on Instagram after Arsenal exit
Ian Wright has sent a message to Hector Bellerin after he completed his move away from Arsenal this week.
What’s the story?
The Spaniard has joined Real Betis on loan, taking a drastic pay cut to seal the move.
Bellerin endured a tough time at Arsenal last season, appearing just 25 times in the Premier League. He fell behind Calum Chambers in the pecking order towards the end of the campaign.
Wright took to Instagram to react to the Spain international’s move to the Basque county.
Using a picture of himself and Bellerin, the Gunners legend praised the right-back for his efforts in north London.
When talking about Bellerin, Wright said: “Always represented the club with pure love and respect. We have all learned so much from you, Enjoy your time at Betis. All love.”
Exit is long overdue
A departure for Bellerin from Arsenal has been long overdue amid praise by Wright.
He has been a great servant of the club, but the full-back was underwhelming towards the end of his time in N5.
His fall from grace was epitomised in last season’s 2-0 loss away to Tottenham Hotspur. Bellerin struggled massively against Heung-Min Son in what proved a brutal afternoon for the defender.
The South Korean tortured the ace with his runs down the Spurs left and in behind his opponent.
The need for a right-back was further highlighted at the start of this season. If Mikel Arteta thought Calum Chambers and Cedric Soares were the answers to his problem, he had to think again.
The former Southampton man was tortured away to Brentford, while his Portuguese teammate struggled against Chelsea and Manchester City.
Bellerin’s departure needs to signal a new era at Arsenal. Never should mediocrity be allowed to settle in for so long.
