Wright and McManaman brand Liverpool star ‘terrible’ and ‘awful’ after defeat to West Ham

Ian Wright and Steve McManaman have hammered Liverpool star Sadio Mane on Premier League Productions, after Sunday’s loss to West Ham.

Liverpool were pushed aside by West Ham, as David Moyes took advantage of set-pieces and the counter attack to rip the script and climb to third.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were well below par and only scored goals through a free-kick from Trent Alexander-Arnold and substitute Divock Origi.

Alisson was at fault for possibly all three goals. Outmuscled for the first, an own goal, before Pablo Fornals tucked an effort underneath the Brazilian.

A third came when a corner floated over Alisson to find Kurt Zouma, who headed home the winner. Mane was criticised after the match.

Offering little in the final third, the Senegal ace allowed Jarrod Bowen to drift past him – for Fornals’ goal. Wright and McManaman criticised him.

“Mane was terrible, the way he came for the ball, the ball into him from Fabinho was poor and on the defender’s side,” Wright said, on Mane.

McManaman continued: “Everybody could have done better, Mane was awful, Oxlade-Chamberlain or Fabinho should bring Bowen down.”

In fairness to Mane, it was not just him. As stated, Alisson was far below his normal brilliant-self. Virgil van Dijk was uncharacteristically caught out.

Alexander-Arnold scored a wonderful free-kick, but his lack of aerial ability is now being targeted by clubs. Brentford have capitalised on it, too.

Mo Salah was surprisingly non-existent despite an assist for Alexander-Arnold’s goal – albeit rolling it to the Reds right-back.

West Ham wanted it more, which was the biggest surprise. It was as if Liverpool were not ready for the quality West Ham would pose.
