Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after Rafa Benitez revealed that Everton have signed Andy Lonergan as a backup goalkeeper.
What’s the story?
Well, Lonergan spent the 2019/20 campaign at Anfield, where he played backup to Alisson Becker and Adrian.
As far as career moves go, it was an excellent one for the 37-year-old.
Lonergan won three trophies during that one season at Anfield, picking up the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and also a Premier League winners medal.
That was, hilariously, despite the fact he didn’t make a single appearance for the Reds that season.
Now, Lonergan has moved across Merseyside to Goodison Park after brief spells at Stoke and West Brom.
As you can see below, some Liverpool fans are a bit sad about this news.
Has Lonergan betrayed fans by going from Liverpool to Everton?

In our view, he absolutely hasn’t – one fan below, however, said they do feel betrayed.
It should be noted that most of the replies below are sarcastic, or written playfully, we believe.
Lonergan became a figure of fun at Anfield. Not in a malicious way, but supporters warmed to him as someone who kept the dressing room happy, and also won a treble despite not kicking a ball.

As he told the Liverpool Echo, Lonergan said James Milner stressed how important his role in the title-winning season was, as a backup goalkeeper who’s a ‘bad egg’ can ruin the dressing room.
Now, however, some fans might see him in a different light after he joined their Merseyside rivals Everton.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying after Lonergan joined the Toffees…
