'Wow': Some Liverpool fans think Aston Villa have a truly 'special' talent in their ranks
A number of Liverpool fans have been left in awe by Aston Villa talent Carney Chukwuemeka for his superb display in the FA Youth Cup fnal.
The Reds Under-18s took on their Villans counterparts in Monday night’s showpiece at Villa Park, falling to a 2-1 defeat which gave the claret and blue side their fourth FA Youth Cup and first since 2002.
Liverpool found themselves two goals down within the opening 12 minutes as Ben Chrisene opened the scoring after just seven minutes before Brad Young was brought down in the box for a penalty which he converted.
Although Liverpool got back into the game when Melkamu Frauendorf’s volley deflected in off Seb Revan with 15 minutes to go, the hosts were able to see the game out without too much difficulty.
Central to Villa’s success was Chukwuemeka, who was at the centre of most of his side’s good play and quite a few Liverpool fans following proceedings were impressed by the 17-year-old’s performance.
Here’s some of what was said on social media:
Chukwuemeka joined the Villa setup from Northampton five years ago and has risen through the ranks to become one of the most highly-rated youngsters at the club.
According to Goal.com, the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City were all linked with Chukwuemeka before he signed his first professional contract in October.
Meanwhile, the likes of Bayern Munich and Juventus have since reportedly joined the queue for a player who has been earning rave reviews ever since his move to Villa aged 12.
“A central midfielder who is not afraid to pick up the ball in tight areas and with decision-making ability that belies his lack of experience, Chukwuemeka has previously likened himself to Paul Pogba,” wrote Goal.com.
“There is also a hint of Dele Alli about his game, and Chukwuemeka has this season been encouraged to replicate the Tottenham star in increasing his attacking output.”
More recently, The Guardian claimed that City and United were still keeping tabs on Chukwuemeka, while the likes of RB Leipzig, Monaco and PSV Eindhoven are also among the clubs monitoring his progress.
Chukwuemeka is a talent of the highest calibre who already looks a cut above at just 17 years of age.
Liverpool were linked with him last year but, since then, a host of teams are now seemingly interested in him.
Chukwuemeka would certainly make a great addition in the Reds’ academy but surely it won’t be long before he starts getting regular game time, and Villa is probably the best place for that.
