‘Wow’: Patrick Bamford shares first impression of Leeds teammate

Patrick Bamford has told UMM that Raphinha is going to be a top player, expressing his hope that Leeds United can hold onto the winger for as long as possible.

Raphinha has proved to be the outstanding signing in what can arguably be looked back upon as a fantastic summer window at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old has scored six goals and contributed six assists in the Premier League. And he has produced several moments of outrageous quality since arriving last year.

Leeds fans seem to be realistic about their chances of keeping the Brazilian. It certainly does appear that they are going to have to kick on next year if they hope to hold off his admirers.

And Bamford suggested that it would be huge for Leeds to keep Raphinha for the foreseeable future, explaining just how impressed he has been by the winger.

“At the clubs I’ve been at, when you’ve had new players join, generally it takes, I think, a few weeks at least for them to settle in and you start seeing them do bits in training and you think: ‘yeah, he’s good’,” he told UMM.

“But Rapha, from the first training session, I was like: ‘wow, this boy is good’. He’s going to be top and it would be good if Leeds hang on to him because he’s going to be top level.”

Bamford and Raphinha appear to have formed an impressive partnership. Between them, the pair have scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists.

And that should excite the Leeds supporters ahead of this summer. It is surely fair to say that the large majority of fans knew very little about Raphinha before the links emerged.

Now however, it seems baffling that Rennes were prepared to let him go. If they can repeat the trick this summer, Leeds fans could be set for another incredible surprise.
