A number of Liverpool fans have expressed their joy at hearing that Virgil van Dijk has reportedly begun light recovery training already, with the Daily Mail describing it as a “major boost” to his hopes of returning this season.
The Reds defender ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in last month’s 2-2 draw at Everton following a heavy and controversial challenge from Jordan Pickford, with the Dutchman subsequently undergoing surgery.
After going under the knife, Van Dijk confirmed on 18 October that he had finalised his rehabilitation plan with a knee specialist.
According to the Daily Mail, the Netherlands international has now begun low impact training ahead of his return with a view to preparing his body for the second, more intense, phase of rehab.
Although it is unknown whether Van Dijk is ahead of schedule at this stage, hearing that he’s making progress and is now apparently in recovery training is nonetheless a big boost for the Reds.
Here is what some Liverpool fans have been saying on social media:

Joe Gomez is set to miss the rest of the campaign with a ruptured patella tendon suffered on England duty last week, leaving Joel Matip as the club’s only recognised senior centre-back.
Fabinho played as a makeshift centre-half after Van Dijk’s injury and did very well, though he too has missed games through injury.
