‘Wow’, ‘deserves better’: Some Liverpool fans thought £90k-a-week man was ‘incredible’ today

A number of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to hail Diogo Jota for yet another superb performance despite a frustrating and disappointing result for Jurgen Klopp’s Reds today.

Liverpool were hoping to go three points clear at the top of the Premier League table and put their 2-0 midweek Champions League defeat behind them in the day’s early kickoff at Brighton.

In a game dominated by VAR, Neal Maupay failed to convert a penalty conceded by Neco Williams before Mohamed Salah found the back of the net, only for it to be disallowed.

Jota, who has been a revelation for Liverpool since joining for £41million in September, went on to put his side ahead on the hour when he collected Salah’s pass, beat two defenders and rifled home.

Substitute Sadio Mane then thought he’d sealed the result for the Reds with a great header, but VAR struck once again as the Senegalese’s goal was ruled out.

The Reds appeared to have done enough to take all three points back to Anfield, only for Brighton to be awarded a penalty in stoppage time.

Danny Welbeck was adjudged to have been clipped by a swinging Andy Robertson boot, and Pascal Gross made no mistake from the spot for a share of the spoils.

As disappointing as the afternoon was for Liverpool, one positive was yet another amazing performance by Jota, who now has nine goals from 14 appearances totalling around 800 minutes of football.
