'Wow': David Seaman hands weekend award to Everton player, after his performance against Southampton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has won David Seaman’s ‘Save of the Week’ award.

Speaking on his Seaman Says podcast, Seaman was seriously impressed with Pickford’s performance against Southampton.

The Toffees ran out 2-1 winners on Saturday, after a six-minute turnaround in the second half.

Conor Coady and Dwight McNeil both scored their first Everton goals and earned plenty of plaudits for their performances.

However, it was a moment when Everton were trying to hold onto the three points that impressed Seaman the most.

With less than 20 minutes to go, a low cross found Adam Armstrong in the Everton box.

Southampton’s number nine composed himself and fired a powerful strike through a body of players.

Pickford won Seaman’s Save of the Week for keeping Armstrong’s venomous shot out, much to the frustration of Armstrong.

Speaking on his podcast, Seaman said: “My Save of the Week is Jordan Pickford from (Adam) Armstrong.

“The ball was bouncing around, there was a lot of players in front of him, and it was a side foot down to Jordan’s left.

“He managed to get down to it, pushed it out wide for a corner, and I just thought it was a real, proper reaction save.

“It was one of those that got the ‘Wow!’ straight away, even when I saw it in slow motion it was even better.

“It’s good that he’s back from injury, and back to performing at his best.”

Jordan Pickford’s recent form will be a massive boost for England and Everton fans.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks believes that Frank Lampard has completely transformed Pickford.

Given the doubts surrounding Nick Pope in an England shirt, Pickford is sure to be Gareth Southgate’s number one in Qatar.

Pickford has been superb for Everton this season, and the Toffees have the best defensive record in the league.

Asmir Begovic deputised well against West Ham, but Pickford’s distribution and shot stopping makes him vital to Everton when he’s fit.

Pickford has already won a Save of the Month award this season, and can add a Save of the Week prize to that too.
