‘Wow’…Darren Bent stunned by what he noticed at half-time during West Ham v Arsenal

Arsenal battered West Ham United today as they flew out of the blocks with a stunning first-half performance at the London Stadium.

The Gunners were absolutely dominant from set-pieces as West Ham’s former skipper Declan Rice came back to haunt his old team with some balls into the box.

William Saliba and Gabriel both helped themselves to headed goals, while Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka also netted in the opening 45 minutes.

For Arsenal, it was the absolute dream first-half, while for West Ham and David Moyes, it was the stuff of nightmares.

Indeed, West Ham fans obviously felt resentment towards the team and performance too as swathes of supporters left at the break. And watching those West Ham supporters leave, former PL striker and self-confessed Arsenal fan Darren Bent admitted he’d never seen anything like it.

Arsenal set-pieces are ridiculous

A lot has been made this season of how well Arsenal do from balls from dead balls and today was a masterclass in how having a top coach in that area can pay dividends.

It helps that the Gunners have big players like Saliba and Gabriel who are not afraid to attack the ball. But even then, it takes a lot more than simply putting the ball into an area.

Of course, West Ham fans will have found this infuriating to watch from the stands and it’s little wonder so many left at half-time.

For David Moyes, it was as worrying a 45 minute spell since he’s been at the club. 4-0 down and without Arsenal even getting into third gear will be a big worry.

Naturally, for Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal coaching staff, it was the ideal first-half where work from the training ground got put into practice on the field.

If Arsenal can keep up this set-piece record for the rest of the season, then they’re going to be right in the mix until the final day when it comes to the title.
