A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to comment on the news that Gunners midfielder Martin Odegaard has been named as Norway’s new team captain.

Arsenal signed the 22-year-old on loan from Real Madrid until the end of the season, Mikel Arteta eager to bring in a creative midfielder to provide competition for Emile Smith Rowe.

Odegaard, who arrived at the Emirates Stadium to much fanfare, has made nine appearances for the Gunners to date.

The playmaker opened his account for Arsenal in Thursday’s Europa League victory at Olympiakos, opening the scoring with a superb curling effort from range.

Odegaard famously became Norway’s youngest ever senior international when he played the full 90 minutes in a 2014 friendly with the United Arab Emirates at 15 years and 253 days.

Eight years on and, at just 22 years old, he’ll now captain his nation, as confirmed by head coach Stale Solbakken to VG.

A huge achievement which prompted Arsenal fans to send their congratulations:

Norway are in World Cup qualifying action at the end of the month, with fixtures against Gibraltar, Turkey and Montenegro on 24, 27 and 30 March respectively.
