VfL Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst has confirmed there was serious interest in his services from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Spurs were linked with a host of different potential striker options to act as back-up to Harry Kane. Weghorst was linked with a move to Spurs by The Express last month, who suggested Tottenham would need to spend around £27 million to sign the colossal frontman.
It was a link later dismissed by Football.London.
However, Weghorst has made it clear that from his point of view, there was strong interest from Tottenham in his services this summer.

“I can be honest, of course I knew that there was interest left and right”, Weghorst informed Kicker this week. “It was serious with Tottenham, I was a candidate. Of course you are interested with something like that too. It is also a confirmation that I’m on the right track.”
“If one day I have the feeling that I cannot achieve my goals at VfL, then I will say so,” Weghorst continued. “That is currently not the case,” he made clear before confirming that “the Premier League is still a dream of mine.”
Tottenham were linked with a host of names this summer and in the end finally got their man by bringing in Carlos Vinicius on loan from Benfica with a view to a permanent transfer.
Weghorst is undoubtedly a player who will continue to remain on the radar for a number of English clubs, especially if he can have another stellar season in the Bundesliga.
But, for now, Tottenham appear to have their striker options all sewn up.
