Modern managers don’t get much time these days.
That’s the sad reality of modern management. No sooner are you through the door are you being sacked if things aren’t going to plan.
We’ve seen so many talented coaches treated in this way in recent years, but there is one notable exception to the rule.
Indeed, Mikel Arteta got plenty of time to implement his style at Arsenal, even during the terrible period he endured at the start.
Speaking on the Unfiltered Podcast, Frank Lampard has been discussing the lack of patience in modern football management, and he pondered how Arteta would’ve got on at another club, claiming that if he’d had that sort of start at Chelsea, he’d be gone by now.

Mikel Arteta would’ve been sacked at Chelsea
Lampard spoke about the Arsenal manager.
“I think Arteta is a great example. Look at the tough times he had, he was trying to find a formation and he had to compromise a lot and you lose some games and people don’t trust the process. Arteta is a fantastic coach, we’re seeing that now, but if he was managing at Chelsea he wouldn’t have made it through that period,” Lampard said.
Definitely
Lampard isn’t wrong here. Arteta absolutely would’ve been gone if he’d had that sort of start at Chelsea.
The Blues have no patience with their managers, they sacked Thomas Tuchel a year after winning the Champions League, while Graham Potter didn’t even unpack his bags in London before he was sacked last season.
If Arteta had gone to Chelsea and had a slow start, he would quickly have been cast aside, and, in all honesty, he may not have recovered.
Luckily, Arsenal gave him time to build something at the Emirates, and now, the north London club are reaping the rewards of showing a bit of patience.
