Michael Hector – Chelsea

Perhaps a bit more of an unrealistic target for the Cobblers, but it hasn’t quite worked out for Chelsea’s surprising deadline day signing at the start of last season yet, Instead Michael Hector has spent the last year on-loan at Championship side Reading.

The Jamaican international will be looking for more first team football after his year in the second division, and spending a year on-loan at Northampton would give him invaluable experience.

Where would he fit in at the Cobblers?

Particularly in the first half of the season, Northampton’s centre-back partnership of Ryan Cresswell and Zander Diamond had moments of uncertainty; notably by Cresswell which ended up in him spending time on the bench in place of Rod McDonald.

Despite only conceding on average a single goal a game across all 46 of them, to aim for anything above mid-table mediocrity in a tough League One division, the back-line needs to be consolidated. Hector could come into the side and provide these solid defensive foundations, especially after a year of playing football up against good quality Championship strikers.
