Newcastle have had an awful last 18 months, which resulted in relegation from the Premier League. This is the club’s second relegation in Mike Ashley’s relatively short time owning the club, prompting questions about his poor decision making since purchasing the club.

There are likely to be wholesale changes made this summer, both in the boardroom, coaching staff and playing staff. Last time they dropped out of the top flight, Newcastle managed to keep the majority of their key players and bounced back at the first attempt.

They will be hoping to do something similar this time around, especially as the financial future of the club is in danger if they have too many seasons outside the riches of the Premier League. A lot will depend on Rafael Benitez’s future, but that is still up in the air at the time of writing.
