Newcastle United might need to sign a new goalkeeper.
The Magpies are going to be without Nick Pope for a little while now, and there are huge question marks around whether or not Martin Dubravka is good enough for a team pushing for the Champions League.
Luckily, Newcastle are in the market for a new goalkeeper at the right time.
There are plenty of quality goalkeepers such as Aaron Ramsdale and Hugo Lloris who may be open to moves in January, and speaking on Kick, Fabrizio Romano has also named another goalkeeper who would like to sign for Newcastle.
Indeed, according to Romano, David De Gea would love to come to St James’ Park, claiming that he is waiting for a call from Eddie Howe.

De Gea waiting for a call
Romano shared what he knows about the ‘fantastic’ goalkeeper.
“I saw one about Newcastle’s goalkeepers. Newcastle are considering options for a new goalkeeper. Newcastle have been unlucky with injuries. Nick Pope is injured, but also Dubravka isn’t 100% fit. De Gea is waiting, De Gea would love to sign for Newcastle, De Gea is just waiting for a call,” Romano said.
Great option
Newcastle have fallen on their feet here.
Of course, it’s never ideal to lose your first-choice goalkeeper, but if ever there was a time to have this problem, it’s now.
Indeed, the fact that De Gea is available is such a get out of jail free card for Newcastle here.
Say what you will about the Spaniard, but he’s been there and done it all in this game, and he’s still a quality shot-stopper.
After months out of the game, one has to imagine that De Gea’s wage demands wouldn’t be outrageous these days, and this could be a very smart move from Newcastle.
This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
