‘Would fit Arsenal perfectly’… Pundit claims Mikel Arteta should be signing underrated 27-year-old attacker

Perry Groves has suggested that Ivan Toney is actually a lot better than many realise, as he backed the striker to be the perfect signing for Arsenal.

It says everything that there still appears to be a need for the Gunners to sign a new striker despite Mikel Arteta’s side winning 5-0 against Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Saturday.

It has been a frustrating season for Arsenal in comparison to last year when it appeared impossible to contain their attack. No-one in the Arsenal squad has scored more than six goals in the Premier League this term.

Perry Groves says Ivan Toney would be perfect for Arsenal

Unsurprisingly, Arsenal do appear to have their eye on Ivan Toney. Clearly, a move may be impossible due to Profit and Sustainability rules. But the Brentford talisman reminded everyone of his quality by being the best player on the pitch against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

And speaking on talkSPORT, Perry Groves suggested that Ivan Toney would be his dream signing for the Gunners in this window if he could bring in another goalscorer.

“He would fit Arsenal perfectly, because he’s a lot better technically than people give him credit for. He’s got that arrogance and that presence that would go straight in and just settle in straight away,” he said.

“Last season, Arsenal had four players who scored over 10 Premier League goals. This season, that hasn’t happened at the moment. And you said there, the two games before the Crystal Palace game, Arsenal against Liverpool in the FA Cup, and West Ham in the Premier League, they had 48 shots and didn’t score.”

Frustration for Gunners fans

It must be so frustrating for Arsenal fans to watch their side not act when the title race is heating up. Obviously, the Gunners have the means to bring in another striker. But their hands are somewhat tied.

Arsenal are the lowest goalscorers in the top five – albeit, not by much – and they had been on a miserable run before the weekend.

Signing Toney would hand Arsenal a massive boost. Any concerns about the striker being rusty have been put to bed. And Groves may not be alone in thinking signing Toney would have made all the difference.
