'Would be fantastic for us', 'Is the one': Some Arsenal fans blown away by 'special' 25-year-old's PL display

A number of Arsenal fans have taken to Twitter to suggest that they would love to see Ivan Toney move to the Emirates after his outstanding performance in the Premier League on Sunday.

Toney bagged the winning goal as Brentford secured a massive win against Everton. It was an outrageous penalty from the 25-year-old brimming with composure and confidence.

But his all-round performance was huge in helping the Bees earn the three points. He won three aerial duels and completed three successful dribbles, according to Whoscored.

And his importance at both ends of the pitch was perhaps best highlighted by the fact that he made four clearances. No Brentford player managed more.

Could Centre-Forwards Become Extinct?

Toney is certainly proving that he has the ability to make a major impact at the highest level. He now has four goals in the top flight since Thomas Frank’s side sealed promotion.

He also has three in his last five in all competitions. No player in the Brentford squad has more assists than the former Newcastle United man either.

Of course, Toney went into this season off the back of a brilliant year in the second tier. He scored 33 times and provided 10 assists as the Bees sealed promotion to the Premier League.

It does seem that the Gunners are going to need to think about their striker options in one of the upcoming windows.

Alexandre Lacazette is reportedly set to leave when his contract expires at the end of the season. It was recently claimed that he was wanted by the likes of Marseille, Newcastle United, Atletico Madrid and AC Milan.

Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah’s days as an Arsenal player also appear to be numbered. Like Lacazette, his contract expires at the end of the campaign.

Lacazette staying at the Emirates cannot be ruled out, it seems. He has been a reasonably important part of Mikel Arteta’s plans in recent weeks.

Nketiah however, will surely be on the move. His prospects have not been helped by the superb under-23 form of Folarin Balogun.

With that in mind, it looks imperative that Arsenal sign a new striker in January or next summer. And for some, Toney would be ideal.

He can score goals. But he offers so much more. He works so hard for the team. And he is not a player that opposition defenders can bully.

Certainly, he gave Arsenal’s backline a torrid evening on the opening night of the current season.

Admittedly, some on social media are yet to be convinced that Toney is good enough to kick on to the next level.

‘Sign him’

His goals return perhaps does not jump out at this stage. But he is undoubtedly proving a point with his form so far.

With that in mind, here is what some of the Arsenal fans made of Toney as he shone in Brentford’s narrow victory over Everton…
