A number of Sunderland fans have taken to Twitter to welcome the report claiming the Black Cats are in talks with Wolves over the sale of Dion Sanderson.

The 21-year-old joined the Stadium of Light outfit on loan from Wolves in October and has been a revelation for Lee Johnson’s side.

Sanderson has made 23 appearances for Sunderland, including 21 in the league, and since becoming a regular starter, he has played a huge role in the Black Cats’ amazing run of form.

The Daily Mail has now reported that Wolves have opened negotiations with Sunderland over the sale of Sanderson amid increased interest for his signature.

The outlet claims that Sanderson’s displays have attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Premier League Brighton and Championship high-flyers Brentford.

Wolves are reported to be contemplating a sale this summer for around £2million.

In addition, the Black Cats reportedly hope that their status, plus the relationship Sanderson enjoys with Johnson, means they’ll be at the forefront of any decision made by the player.

The 6ft 2in defender is a firm fan favourite at the Stadium of Light and has shown he’s a cut above in League One.

Johnson has described Sanderson as an “absolute Rolls Royce” of a player, while Black Cats icon Stephen Elliott believes he’s got a “huge future in the game”.

Therefore, speculation claiming he could potentially join permanently has gone down very well amongst Sunderland fans.
