Would Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain be worth £40million to Liverpool?

In an exclusive report, the Express claim that Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool have not been put off by Arsenal’s huge valuation of midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. That could see the Reds offer as much as £40 million for the England International.

What would he bring to Anfield to justify such a fee?

Assuming that Jurgen Klopp sees him as part of a front three on the wing, Oxlade-Chamberlain can offer huge energy, pace and drive down the flanks as he showed with his determined solo effort for England at Hampden Park against Scotland on Saturday evening.

Another one of the 23-year-old’s assets is his versatility. This season alone, ‘the Ox’ has played on the wing, in central midfield and at wing-back. Such flexibility and desire to work for the team is likely to have impressed Klopp.

At such a young age, the midfielder has already established himself as one of England’s brightest talents and there is still room to improve which could well justify such a fee. Whilst it would represent a huge investment, there could be very attractive results in the long term.

Is a move likely?

The former Southampton man is entering into the final year of his contract at the Emirates and there have been rumours of frustration. Whilst the Gunners are planning a bumper offer to keep him at the club, he is thought to be unhappy with Arsene Wenger’s reluctance to play him in a set position.

The opportunity to join forces with Jurgen Klopp could be a major asset in Liverpool’s pursuit given the German’s history of developing young players to reach their full potential. With a World Cup on the horizon, that could influence Chamberlain’s decision to move elsewhere to find a settled position with regular game time.

Arsenal clearly do not want to sell and will hold out for a huge offer in any negotiations. £40 million for a player with a year left on his contract could be acceptable for the Emirates side though, given that they will be unlikely to recoup such a fee at any other time.
