Ralph Hasenhuttl’s reign as Southampton manager got off to a losing start as they were edged out by Cardiff City yesterday.

Hasenhuttl took over from Mark Hughes at Southampton and he got a notion of just how much work he has to do by watching yesterday’s display.

Cardiff were gifted the only goal of the game by an individual error from Jannik Vestergaard.

The 6ft 7in defender has had a slow start to life in England and his mistake proved costly in yesterday’s loss.

The 26-year-old dawdled on the ball and was dispossessed by Callum Paterson, who then showed his strength by knocking Vestergaard to the ground and slotting past Alex McCarthy.

In a tightly fought game, it was the one mistake from the Denmark international which separated the two sides.

The loss leaves the Saints in 19th place, three points off safety as Hasenhuttl takes over.

Southampton fans flocked to social media after the game to vent their frustration at Vestergaard.

Below are some of the things Southampton fans have been saying about their summer signing’s poor showing.
