'Worrying sign': Paul Merson makes Arsenal prediction against Newcastle today
Arsenal are back in Premier League action today as they take on Newcastle United.
The Gunners host the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium in the day’s early kickoff.
Mikel Arteta’s charges were in great form prior to last weekend.
However, Arsenal saw their 10-game unbeaten run come to an abrupt end at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Newcastle are yet to win this season, but they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw at Brentford last time out.
Eddie Howe is set to be in the dugout against Arsenal after missing the Bees clash – he has tested negative for covid.
It is understood the new Newcastle manager has been allowed to travel under the protocol after his symptoms were traced back to last week.
Two sides at opposite ends of the table, both desperate for points – it should be an exciting match-up.
Arsenal legend Paul Merson, writing for Sportskeeda, has given his prediction for Arsenal v Newcastle.
“I would expect Arsenal to get back on the horse against Newcastle,” he wrote.
“They proved that they’re flat-track bullies last weekend.
“They’ve played a game apiece against the top three and they’ve been completely and utterly blown away this season.
“It is a worrying sign, but they have been winning games that they are expected to win.
“Newcastle didn’t get a particularly great result against Brentford the other day, but they did have a good game.
“Their fans want to see good football from them, but I don’t see them troubling Arsenal this weekend.
“Arsenal were on a 10-game unbeaten streak before Liverpool ended their purple patch.
“Newcastle showed signs of improvement against Brentford but will find it difficult to keep Arsenal at bay.”
Merson capped the article off by predicting a 3-0 win for the Gunners.
