Mateusz Klich has admitted that he’s been struggling lately when it comes to his fitness – and some Leeds United fans on Twitter empathise with him by suggesting all the hard work under Marcelo Bielsa has started to catch up.
Klich, 30, has been operating flat out at Elland Road in the past two and a half seasons, becoming such a key figure in the centre of the park.
The £24,000-a-week (Salary Sport) Polish midfielder was integral in securing promotion from the Championship, while this year he started the campaign in impressive form in the Premier League.
Unfortunately, his levels have dipped somewhat in 2021, and he’s even come out of the starting XI in the past couple of weeks.
He’s usually the box-to-box midfielder that is the engine of the side with his relentless stamina.
Klich has explained though that he’s been playing with a small amount of pain, and reckons he needs some proper rest to recover.
“I admit that yes, that’s why I’ve been resting more in the club lately,” Klich told Sportowe Fakty. “I started two matches on the bench. Over the last three years I have “loaded” some of these games, and I have not had any holidays.
“Fortunately, I was avoiding serious injuries, but minor ones started to happen to me. From overload, from intensity. My joints don’t hurt yet, I’m only 30 years old, but something hurts.
“At the club, we also train very hard between meetings, so it’s hard to regain freshness. I hope to catch my breath, because I have the best matches when I am physically prepared.”

A selection of Leeds supporters on social media appreciate the honesty from Klich and fully understand his situation.
If he’s on form, then he’s a nailed-on starter for the Yorkshire giants.
He’s an all-action central midfielder that needs to recharge his batteries, and return to the side as someone who makes such a big difference both offensively and defensively.
