Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has been praised by Spurs counterpart Hugo Lloris.

The France stopper has backed the Elland Road gem to be his successor in the national team once he decides to hang up his gloves.

Meslier has made a huge name for himself since arriving at Elland Road from French club Lorient in 2019.

The 21-year-old initially joined the Whites on loan before signing permanently in summer 2020 for a reported £5million.

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was so impressed with the Frenchman that he made him the youngest first-choice keeper in the Premier League.

And Meslier hasn’t disappointed, developing into a keeper worthy of being first-choice for a top-flight team.

To date, he has made 60 competitive appearances for Leeds.

Last season, Meslier became the youngest goalkeeper in Premier League history to reach ten clean sheets, ahead of Joe Hart.

Meanwhile, Lloris has been a stalwart during his time representing France, winning both the World Cup and Nations League in the last three years.

And in terms of succeeding him, the Spurs star sees Meslier as a potential contender to replace him in Didier Deschamps’ side.

He is quoted by RMC Sport – via Leeds Live – as saying: “There’s Illan Meslier, who is doing very nice things in the Premier League.

“He’s a young goalkeeper, but when you look at what he’s doing at his age, in such a tough and intense league, it shows all his potential.”
