It’s been said on numerous occasions that nothing could be more typically Scotland than finally having two world-class players only for them both to play in the same position.
It would be even more typical, however, if one of those players picked up an injury that ruled them out of the first tournament they’ve reached in 23 years.
There are no suggestions yet that Kieran Tierney will miss this summer’s tournament, but the sight of him being accompanied off the pitch by a physio during Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday will have had hearts in mouths throughout the country.
After overcoming injury problems, the left-back has gone on to become a major success at Arsenal.
He won the club’s Player of the Month award in June, and has turned in a series of impressive performances during a difficult campaign for Mikel Arteta’s side.
He’s replicated that form on the international stage, despite being played in a more central role to accommodate Liverpool’s Andy Robertson on the left.
As quoted by Football London, Arteta said: “He felt something in his knee and he was in pain. He will be injured but we don’t know for how long.”
The Scotland supporters below are clearly eager for Tierney to be back in action soon.
