Arsenal are now set for an important week in the transfer window as they look to sign their second player of the summer.

Mikel Arteta has finally got his top target through the door after weeks of negotiations to bring Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal.

The north London side have not seen the Italy international in action yet after he joined up late to their pre-season tour of the United States.

Having signed Calafiori last weekend, the Gunners are looking to strike whilst the iron is still hot in the transfer market.

There is suggestions that Arsenal are closing in on a deal to add Mikel Merino to their squad over the coming weeks.

But there is also another target of Arsenal’s who could be set to decide on his next club as soon as next week.

Arsenal target being eyed by Manchester United set to choose next club

Like Arsenal, Manchester United have been able to acquire their top target this summer.

In fact, they have been able to bring in two quality additions which are likely to improve their starting XI dramatically with Joshua Zirkzee and Lenny Yoro.

However, there is still a considerable gap between the sides with Arsenal now the side battling Manchester City for the title.

But the Gunners and the Red Devils look set to battle it out for a certain midfielder who looks ready to make a decision on his future very soon.

According to Caught Offside, Adrien Rabiot has a big week ahead of him with further talks scheduled to be held over his future.

Rabiot’s representatives have already held talks with both Arsenal and Manchester United.

But they are not the only two sides with Liverpool also on the scene as a further round of discussions in penned in for next week.

Erik ten Hag and Arteta are said to be big fans of the France international who is said to be looking for up to £12.7m in salary per year.

Arsenal look set to sign Mikel Merino

There could be one major hurdle for Arsenal if they are still keen on bringing in Rabiot this summer.

Arsenal are close to signing Merino from Real Sociedad and that is a midfield addition which could rule out a move for the France international.

Perhaps this could provide United with the advantage in the race to sign Rabiot as a free agent.

However, it is apparent the former Juventus man is not going to come cheap considering his huge wage demands.
