Kieran Tierney has been called “world class” by international team-mate Craig Gordon.

The pair were colleagues at Celtic, before Tierney joined Arsenal for £25m in 2019.

There has been much debate as to whether Tierney or Liverpool’s Andy Robertson should occupy the left-back berth for Scotland, with the Arsenal man being deployed in the centre to accommodate Robertson on the left.

Tierney has been Scotland’s most impressive performer during this international break, and capped his fine form with three assists in Wednesday night’s 4-0 win against the Faroe Islands at Hampden.

The 23-year-old, who reportedly earns £80,000 per week at the Emirates, has been a standout performer for Mikel Arteta’s side over the last nine months and was named the club’s Player of the Month for June.

Gordon believes there has been a recognisable improvement in Tierney’s game since heading for the English Premier League, and that there is even more to come from him.

As quoted by Record Sport, the goalkeeper said: “I thought he was incredible and he has taken his game on even further.

“He talks so highly of the Arsenal coaching staff and how they have helped develop him.

“For us, over the three games, he has been excellent, if not the standout in every single one.

“He has been magnificent and hopefully we can keep him fit and playing at this level.

“I think he is world class, I really do. He is so consistent as well and that is what makes him so good. He has been more consistent and tactically and technically he has improved, playing against better players week in, week out. He has raised his level because of that.

“I have seen him come through from 17 to where he is now and he will only continue to get better.

“He is doing it in every game and he’s big for us on and off the park. He is also in charge of the music and he is great for the camp and a real valued member of the squad.”
