‘Worked his socks off’: BBC pundit left amazed by £25m Villa player’s work-rate against Brighton
Ings got back amongst the goals on the south coast today as he led Villa to a 2-1 win over Roberto De Zerbi’s men.
The £25 million man bagged a brace to help Villa come from behind at the Amex Stadium. Ings made no mistake from the penalty spot in the first-half and produced a cool finish in the second-half.
But it was the 30-year-old’s work off the ball that impressed Sidwell on BBC Radio 5 Live.
Sidwell left amazed by Ings
“Huge celebrations from Aston Villa on the bench, just like the fans. Fully deserved as well,” Sidwell said.
“They showed so much personality and character, especially from a defensive point of view. Two goals from Danny Ings, he worked his socks off.
“Brighton had plenty of chances, plenty of the ball. Could they have got a bit more with a bit more quality? Huge result there from Aston Villa, really good away performance.”
Ings came back into the Villa side this week after being named amongst the substitutes against Manchester United last weekend.
The Englishman will have certainly impressed Emery with his work-rate off the ball, as well as his clinical finishing.
The former Southampton striker has struggled to recapture his clinical goalscoring form he produced on the south coast during his time in the Midlands.
But Ings will be hoping he can start getting back to his best under Emery and the early signs are certainly positive.
Today’s win means Emery has now won his first two Premier League games as Villa boss and they have moved up to 12th place heading into the World Cup.
The Spaniard will be delighted with the way his side have performed over the past week and will be hoping to build on the positive displays next month.
