Glasgow Rangers newcomer Bongani Zungu has taken part in his first training session for Steven Gerrard’s side, prompting some fans of the Ibrox giants to welcome his arrival.

The Gers signed the South African midfielder on a season-long loan deal from French second-tier club Amiens earlier in October, with the option to make the 27-year-old’s deal permanent next summer.

Zungu had to go into self-isolation earlier this month, in line with Scottish government guidelines in wake of current events.

However, following the end of this period, he linked up with the Rangers squad in training for the first time on Wednesday morning, the day before their Europa League meeting with Lech Poznan at Ibrox.

The club shared images and footage of Zungu taking part in drills:

At present, midfield is the strongest area of the Rangers squad, with the likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo and Steven Davis – as well as Zungu – all seeking to stake their claims for regular minutes.

After hosting Poznan at Ibrox in midweek, Gerrard’s charges travel to Kilmarnock in a Sunday lunchtime kickoff.
