Sky Sports pundit Dean Ashton was left amazed by Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard‘s display at Stamford Bridge today.
The Gunners started the game in a typically fast fashion and were on top for large parts of the first-half.
But Mikel Arteta’s men struggled to create clear-cut chances, except for Gabriel Jesus’ glorious opportunity in the 28th minute.
Chelsea did manage to create a couple of decent openings but were largely second best during the opening 45 minutes.
And Ashton was really impressed with Odegaard’s commanding display from midfield

Ashton left amazed by Odegaard
Speaking on Soccer Sunday on Sky Sports News, Ashton said that all of Arsenal’s attacking play was coming through Odegaard during the first-half.
The former West Ham striker was asked who had impressed him the most out of the Gunners side in the opening half an hour and picked the Gunners captain.
“Odegaard is such a wonderful player and seems to link everything, everything seems to come through him,” he responded.
“It allows [Granit] Xhaka then to run off and he’s causing problems.”
The £30 million playmaker has been in brilliant form for the Gunners this season and dictated play during the opening half today.

Arteta’s men came out strongly once again after half-time and Thomas Partey had a brilliant chance to open the scoring from a corner, but couldn’t guide his header on target.
Jesus displayed his usual brilliant work-rate to rob Thiago Silva of the ball before Saka played him in behind Chelsea’s defence. But Edouard Mendy denied the Brazilian from a difficult angle.
Arsenal finally found a breakthrough just after the hour mark as Gabriel Magalhaes got on the end of Saka’s delivery from a corner.
Odegaard had a chance to double his side’s lead in the 73rd minute after hitting Chelsea on the counter-attack. But the 23-year-old couldn’t keep his effort down and put it way over Mendy’s goal.
It was a seriously impressive display from Arteta’s men today as they dominated Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The win put the Gunners back above Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
