Pundit Steve McManaman has a lot of praise for Tottenham Hotspur after they completed a deal for a ’20 goal’ forward this season.
Steve McManaman, now a pundit and commentator for BT Sport, likes what he sees at Tottenham Hotspur. Specifically, he think bringing in Gareth Bale was an inspired move.
The two have a lot in common, after all. They both left the Premier League for Real Madrid and helped deliver European silverware in star-studded teams. And now that Bale is back in England, McManaman believes he’ll light up the Premier League once again.
“It’s a brilliant signing for Tottenham,” he told LiveScore. “When you think of Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son and then you throw Gareth into the mix as well — it automatically lifts that starting XI to another level.
“If he stays fit and plays 40 or 45 games for Tottenham, he’ll definitely score 20-odd goals and you just cannot buy those types of numbers.
“The fact is that Tottenham have a great deal. I think it’s wonderful business, I really do.
“If he stays fit, he’ll certainly elevate Tottenham to another level in the Premier League and other competitions this season.”
TBR View:
It’s a big shout from McManaman, in truth. Bale has only reached 20 goals three times in his career but that does come with a caveat. The Welshman had a strange time in Madrid.
Bale shone brightly on occasion there but Zinedine Zidane clearly didn’t rate him too highly. The fact Bale managed 35 goals between 2017 and 2019 is actually quite remarkable, then.

The big one will be if Bale can fit back in at Spurs. It’s not the same team he left, after all. There’s a new manager in Jose Mourinho and a new star in Harry Kane. Bale, no matter how well he plays, will have to play a secondary role behind the no.10.
McManaman would later say that he doesn’t see Bale as someone who struggles to be fit or with injuries, though. If he’s right, then there’s a very good chance he gets a regular role under Mourinho. And that might be all it takes to get him back on track.
