‘Wonder what logic he’s using’: Some Celtic fans mock Rangers man’s comments

A number of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to poke fun at Glasgow Rangers striker Jermain Defoe after his comments about the Ibrox club overtaking the Hoops in “a matter of time”.

Steven Gerrard’s charges had high hopes of knocking Celtic off the top of Scottish football this season after making several decent additions over the summer.

Indeed, Rangers went into the winter break having beaten Neil Lennon’s side 2-1 at Parkhead and very much playing the Bhoys off the park on that occasion.

After action resumed, however, the Ibrox side’s domestic form collapsed, while Celtic’s was relentless.

By the time Scottish football was suspended in wake of the global health crisis, Celtic sat 13 points clear at the top of the table, have already won the League Cup, and are favourites for the Scottish Cup.

When asked about winning the league, Defoe told Footballfancast: “I said it when I signed, I believe it’s only a matter of time before it happens. Celtic fans give me a bit of banter about it on social media but I do genuinely believe it’s only a matter of time.”

Given Celtic are on the brink of a ninth title in a row and have brought the last 10 major Scottish football trophies back to Parkhead, many Hoops fans couldn’t help but have a dig at the Rangers man.
