Wolves starlet John Kitolano endures nightmare afternoon on international stage for Norway U20

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender John Kitolano is currently in Poland with the Norway U20 squad for the World Cup of that age group.

But the most recent World Cup game was a day to forget for the youngster. Kitolano was at fault for both goals as Norway crashed to a 2-0 defeat against New Zealand.

The Kiwis took the lead in 71st minute through Gianni Stensness. It was a stunning long-range strike from Stensness but Kitolano could have prevented it.

Kitolano’s weak half-clearance put the ball directly into the path of Stensness, whose first-time shot was a rocket into the top corner.

And a bad afternoon got worse for Kitolano in the 83rd minute. The 19-year-old made a mess of a low cross into the box and managed to divert it into the bottom corner.

After giving the ball away for the opener, Kitolano’s then scored an unfortunate own goal. This left Norway with zero points after two games and they are already out of the tournament.

Kitolano will be hoping to put this performance behind him ahead of the final game and his return to Wolves for pre-season. The Norway youth international plays at left-back or left-wing-back and joined Wolves last summer from Odd.

The teenager has not made his first-team debut yet but is rated highly. His unfortunate afternoon in the U20 World Cup will serve as a learning curve for Kitolano.
