Wolverhampton Wanderers should test the waters over a move for Everton’s James McCarthy in January.
The midfielder has returned to the first-team setup after being out of action since January after breaking his leg against West Bromwich Albion.

McCarthy isn’t fully match fit yet, but did feature in the Everton first-team’s recent mid-season friendly match against Gor Mahia – a big step in the player’s recovery.
He has gotten some minutes for the U23s, but is yet to be included in any Premier League matchday squads by Marco Silva, although that is likely to change soon.
It’s going to be difficult for McCarthy to break back into the starting XI though, with Silva able to boast many midfield options.

Idrissa Gueye and Andre Gomes appear to be the manager’s preferred pairing in the engine room, and Gylfi Sigurdsson operates as the number 10. He also has Morgan Schneiderlin and Tom Davies in reserve.
With competition tough, perhaps a loan move would not be out of the question for the McCarthy in January.
Wolves should swoop
If Everton do feel open to letting McCarthy leave to get more first-team minutesa under his belt then Wolves should be throwing their hat into the mix.
Nuno Espirito Santo supposedly wants more options to compete with Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves, as recently reported by The Birmingham Mail, and McCarthy would be a great signing.

He is very tidy in possession and good at breaking opposition attacks down.
He is less fancy that Neves and prefers to keep things simple, but he has a wealth of Premier League experience which should count for a lot.
With Joao Moutinho now 32, Wolves will need someone to provide cover for the playmaker and McCarthy will be raring to go after a frustrating 2018.
