Wolves should have moved for Diagne when they had the chance

Wolverhampton Wanderers should have tried to sign Mbaye Diagne when they had the chance.

Nuno Espirito Santo was understood to want a striker in January (The Telegraph), but he’s only ended up losing one in Leo Bonatini rather than buying one.

Bonatini has joined Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season (via the club’s official website), meaning Raul Jimenez is now the only recognised first-team striker at Espirito Santo’s disposal.

The Mexican has featured in every single game for the Black Country club in the Premier League so far in 2018/19, and has emerged as a hugely influential player.

It seems strange that Espirito Santo would be happy to press on with only one striker, despite their safe position in the league table.

Perhaps the club should have moved for former target Diagne of Kasimpasa when they had the chance

Diagne would have been a solid signing

In November, ESPN reported that Wolves had held talks with the representatives of Diagne.

Supposedly he had made it onto the club’s shortlist after impressing with the Turkish outfit following a move from Tianjin TEDA in January 2018.

It’s now too late for Wolves, as Diagne has made a domestic move to join Galatasaray after a blistering start with Kasimpasa (via the club’s official website).

The club announced the signing on deadline day and with Bonatini leaving Molineux, it looks like Wolves may have missed out on a deal that could have helped them.

Diagne plundered 32 goals in 34 league games for Kasimpasa and has shown himself to be a real handful in attack.
