Wolves scouted Gabriel Magalhaes on Saturday but he scored an own goal

Wolverhampton Wanderers target Gabriel Magalhaes scored an own goal on Saturday.

Lille lost 2-1 against Marseille with Gabriel’s unfortunate own goal ending up being the difference. And Wolves reportedly had scouts checking up on the defender during the game.

Last week, The Daily Mail reported that Wolves watched Gabriel in action against Bordeaux. With Willy Boly and Ryan Bennett out injured, Wolves have accelerated their search for a new centre-back.

The report added that Wolves would have scouts present against Marseille in the next Ligue 1 clash. Wolves representatives would have watched on and made notes as the Brazilian put through his own net on 79 minutes.

This made it 2-0 to Marseille with Adama Soumaoro pulling one back for Lille seven minutes from time. With just the one goal separating the two sides, Gabriel’s own goal proved to be costly.

Wolves scouts will use this as they make a decision on whether to sign him in the January transfer window. The 21-year-old has played 12 games this season and a total of 30 times for Lille.

The defensive starlet is highly-rated and he is capped by Brazil at youth level. But he will have do more to convince Wolves that he is worth a punt after Saturday’s own goal.
