Wolves reportedly want Manchester City star, but do Leeds need him more? – TBR View

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly looking to raid Manchester City and land £19m-rated left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko in the January transfer window – but do Leeds United need to rival Wolves for the Ukranian star?

Zinchenko, 24, impressed for Manchester City last season but this season has struggled for game time. He has managed just one substitute appearance for City in the Premier League this season, with Joao Cancelo being used on the left of defence.

Benjamin Mendy is back in training – meaning Zinchenko has fallen some way down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola. The Sun claim Wolves are eyeing a move for the ex-PSV star after missing out on the City defender two years ago.

The report claims he is rated at £19million – but should Leeds consider rivalling Wolves? Certainly, Leeds could do with a left-back signing – more so than other areas of their side, as Marcelo Bielsa continues to chop and change at left-back.

Stuart Dallas started there, while Gjanni Alioski has been used more recently while Dallas has covered in midfield and at right-back. Dallas has done okay since promotion, but certainly is viewed as a utility player.

Alioski remains out of contract next summer and while talks are reportedly ongoing, nothing has been confirmed.A new left-back could be looked at by Leeds in January and if they are to spend, then perhaps Zinchenko would be ideal.

Boasting Premier League experience, a willingness to get forward and play as a wing-back – but also the aggression to remain sturdy in defence, Zinchenko embodies the perfect type of left-back that Bielsa likes.

Leeds should consider Zinchenko at £19million, then – especially given the connection between Bielsa and Guardiola. Would he consider Leeds over Wolves? The difference at Wolves is that when Jonny returns, he might not be first choice.
