Wolves have walked away from a deal for Southampton midfielder Mario Lemina ahead of the transfer deadline according to the Daily Echo.
They report that the Old Gold wanted an initial loan deal with an option to buy, whereas the Saints wanted a straight sale and wouldn’t compromise.
The £65,000-a-week (Spotrac) midfielder made it clear that he wanted to leave St Mary’s this summer and the report contains his quotes from earlier in the window.
He said: “I stand by my plan, I decided to tell the leaders that I wanted to leave, there is no turning back. I know what I’m capable of, I’m 100 per cent and I’m going to prove that I can get back to my best.”

Wolves have huge ambitions this season but they also have a thin squad and the Europa League is notorious for sapping the energy of English clubs and impacting on their league form.
That will make it a real challenge for Wolves to carry on improving domestically as well as making waves on the European stage.
The club has carried on improving every year and they won’t have any plans to stop that now – and Lemina would have added quality and squad depth, but it’s not worth Wolves bending on the type of deal they wanted for a player who has fallen out of favour at a club further down the table than they are.
