Wolves ready ‘formal approach’ to Middlesbrough for Rob Edwards as offer timeline revealed

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly expected to make a formal approach for Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards in the coming hours on Thursday as they hunt for a new manager.

Wolves sacked Vitor Pereira on Sunday after a dreadful start to the Premier League season, drawing to and losing the other eight of their opening 10 games in the league.

Relegation to the Championship is looming large for Wolves unless something changes quickly, and Molineux owners Fosun have opted for a switch in manager to kickstart their season.

And it appears that Wolves will look to bring former player Rob Edwards back to the club, with reports suggesting they will make a formal approach to land Edwards on Thursday as their first-choice target.

Wolves set to approach Middlesbrough for Rob Edwards on Thursday

The report by Telegraph reporter John Percy states that Wolves are expected to make a ‘formal’ approach to Middlesbrough on Thursday in a bid to bring Rob Edwards to the helm.

The former Luton Town boss has been in the conversation for an appointment ever since Pereira’s sacking on Sunday, following a dreadful 3-0 loss at Fulham.

TBR Football revealed that Edwards was very much in Wolves’ thinking on Tuesday, with his release clause failing to put Molineux chiefs off a potential move to bring him to the West Midlands throne.

Gary O’Neil was also in the running, but he turned Wolves down after O’Neil was sacked himself in December last year.

Edwards failed to keep Luton Town in the Premier League, albeit on limited resources, as the Kenilworth Road outfit battled against the country’s elite.

A poor start to last season saw him depart in January, with Luton only sitting 20th in the Championship table.

However, a solid start to the current campaign with Middlesbrough after taking over in June sees Boro in third place in the table, just one point from the automatic promotion slots.

Wolves could perform double raid on Middlesbrough with sporting director in their sights

The raid on the Riverside Stadium may not stop there.

TBR Football sources have further stated that Wolves are looking at bringing Boro sporting director Kieran Scott to the club to form part of their transfer recruitment process.

Scott, who joined Middlesbrough in 2021, led the club on a charge to the Championship playoffs in 2023 via some smart transfers such as Chuba Akpom, Cameron Archer, Rodrigo Muniz, Aaron Ramsey and most impressively of all, Morgan Rogers.

However, despite Norwich being interested in a return to Carrow Road, sources have told us that Wolves are also in need of a sporting director after Domenico Teti’s departure on Wednesday.

And, in a time of urgency, that could lead them to a double deal for both Edwards and Scott to see them link up again.

Wolves could benefit massively from the pair working together but it would certainly shatter the Teesside outfit.
