Wolves must rival West Ham for Gary Medel in January
Wolverhampton Wanderers should definitely consider throwing their hat into the mix to sign Gary Medel.
Sky Sports reported on Wednesday that Manuel Pellegrini wants to bring his fellow countryman to the London Stadium.
The Hammers are a little light at the back and in midfield, with Medel able to operate in both positions.
He will be known to some followers of English football, after he represented Cardiff City for the 2013/14 season.
He left the Bluebirds in the summer of 2014 to join Serie A giants Internazionale where he made 109 appearances across three seasons.
West Ham are in for Medel, but Wolves could certainly benefit from a player of his ilk.
Nuno wants midfield cover
Last month, Wolves manager Nuno Espirito Santo was reported to be coveting a striker, a midfielder and a right-back ahead of the January transfer window.
He should certainly be taking a look at Medel, who is extremely experienced and versatile.
At the moment, Wolves’ first-choice midfield pairing consists of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.
While they have been excellent together so far, one thing they do lack is some bite.
They are deft, elegant playmakers, but Medel is aggressive and resolute.
He would be a great player to have in a squad purely for the more physical fixtures in a season.
The Chile international would also provide cover in defence, which has actually been his more prominent position in recent years. With Wolves using three central defenders, it means there isn’t currently much cover in reserve.
