Wolves must beware another home defeat at the hands of struggling Cardiff

On Tuesday, Wolves faced a Huddersfield side that had not won since the last time the two teams met back in November and contrived to lose again.

The Old Gold were woeful at the John Smiths Stadium, deservedly ending up on the wrong end of a 1-0 reverse.

Raising their game for the big clubs has not been a problem for Nuno Santo’s men this season but they have often struggled to rouse themselves against the division’s lesser lights.

That complacency was in view the last time they faced this weekend’s visitors to Molineux, Cardiff City, losing 2-1 at the Cardiff City Stadium.

So while hosting Neil Warnock’s side – who have lost their last two matches, conceding a total of eight goals – may seem like the perfect opportunity for Santo’s men to get back on track, they must be wary.

As well as that lingering complacency – which will only get worse now that Wolves are not going to get relegated and have one eye on the FA Cup – and the loss to Cardiff this season, the two side’s last Molineux meeting also holds a warning.

Joe Ralls and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing – the latter will expect to start tomorrow – secured a 2-1 victory back in August 2017 and while a lot has changed since then, it shows that Warnock and Cardiff know how to exploit Wolves.

Santo does not want two straight defeats against sides in the bottom three as his side look to push into seventh, but avoiding that fate may be tougher than some might expect.
