Wolves and Leeds have a Danny Batth solution in front of their eyes

Wolves and Leeds United had contrasting evenings in the League Cup last night. Wolves powered past Sheffield Wednesday in their tie. That was despite making several changes to the side that had earned a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Premier League at the weekend.

Leeds United, on the other hand, may have paid the price for their chopping and changing. Preston North End scored two first-half goals to see off the Whites at Elland Road.

A couple of things became fairly obvious after the games. With Wolves not even including club captain Danny Batth in the squad the centre-back clearly needs to head out on loan before Friday’s deadline. Leeds learned that they do not have sufficient centre-back cover, after Conor Shaughnessy’s poor display at the back.

The solution certainly seems simple enough.

“That’s a decision. Danny is the captain of the club. I already spoke with him. He didn’t come today.

“Options, we have to make decisions. Sometimes they are not so happy to take, but we have to make decisions.”

Leeds United need a new centre-back to provide cover and competition for Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper. Batth needs to leave Wolves to get regular first-team football and is an experienced Football League operator.

Leeds have already done business with Wolves this summer. They snapped up Barry Douglas, who like Batth was seemingly deemed not good enough for the top-flight. Early form has suggested that deal was a success.

A similar move for Batth could be exactly what Leeds United need.
