Wolverhampton Wanderers fans would have been pleased to see Mexico advance in the CONCACAF Gold Cup this weekend. Raul Jimenez scored as El Tri knocked out Costa Rica to book a semi-final date with Haiti.

Les Grenadiers pulled off a stunning comeback to shock Canada in their semi-final clash. After going 2-0 down, it looked like The Canucks were on their way to the final four.

But it was a former Wolves player who spearheaded an incredible night for Haitian football.

Duckens Nazon scored his second goal of the tournament to pull one back for the underdogs. Herve Bazile then scored a penalty before Wilde Donald Guerrier scored a 76th-minute winner. Nazon even set up the winning goal with a delightful pass.

Wolves fans may have limited memories of Nazon.

The French-born striker was signed in 2017 following a stint in India with Kerala Blasters. He went on to spend 18 months at Molineux but never played a first-team game for the club. Loan spells at Coventry City and Oldham Athletic were however successful.

Off the back of those loan appearances, Wolves managed to sell him to Sint-Truiden in Belgium for an undisclosed fee.

The 25-year-old spent the end of last season on loan with Saint Mirren in Scotland but is putting in some fine performances this summer.

Next up, his nation face Mexico, headed by Wolves’ current star striker Jimenez. There’s no doubt that the Mexican is a much-preferred option at Molineux. However, Nazon might be able to prove different for just one night with his nation.
