Wolverhampton Wanderers host Reading on Wednesday night in the third round of the Carabao Cup – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter want defender Dion Sanderson to earn his senior debut.
The 19-year-old is a highly-rated talent to come through the youth ranks at Molineux and is a key part of the Under-23s side.
Wolves could do with a lift in the domestic cup competition and face a Reading side that are in the bottom half of the Championship.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit 19th in the Premier League with no victories from their opening six games and need to try reignite their form.
The West Midlands club are struggling to balance domestic and European competitions so far this season, as they look miles off the pace they set last season in the top-flight.
A selection of Wolves supporters on social media believe there should be rotation in midweek for the cup and have suggested Sanderson as someone that should come into the team.
He is a ball-playing centre-back that has the potential to slot into a three-man defence, while he has also played as a wing-back at times.
The Englishman is tipped by many as someone that can break into the senior ranks from the academy and he was an unused substitute earlier in the season during Europa League qualifiers.
It could be an ideal fixture at home to lower league opponents to give the promising defender a debut at Molineux.
Here are some Wolves fans on Sanderson:
Against Reading I want to see Jordao, Shabani, Perry, Kilman, and Sanderson https://t.co/G3POrpBqQ5

Sanderson could be a surprise solution to our right back issues in the Prem IMO. Give him a run out v Reading and lets see if he might hack it in the Prem. Boly could then move back to the left where he is more comfortable. #wwfc

It’s all a bit complicated because the 23s are also playing tomorrow in the Checkatrade (or whatever it is now).
Ruddy, Bennett, Donck, Vallejo, Sanderson, Neves, Jordao, MGW, Vinagre, Neto, Cutrone for me.

I like Taylor Perry alot but don’t think he’s quite ready. Dion Sanderson really deserves it though he looks so assured defensively and bringing the ball out. Quick too unlike our other defenders.
